Car Ads from a Simpler Time

This one's, well, hard to believe, even for the '50s! See what I mean.

Can you say mid-life crisis? The car's not the only one with a vinyl roof.

Safety? We don't need no stinkin' safety! Lucky they stopped filming before the kid flew out "the new breezeway rear window."

What happens when a '60s (?) preowned car salesman loses it on live TV? Still not sure, but it's rated R!

You don't think the opening scene is symbolic of anything, do ya?

Just one word: OUCH!

With hair like that, who needs airbags?

"Seized by an uncontrollable urge to plant yourself behind..." Well, if you don't know what that means, there's no excuse!

"Excitement ... Packed with extras" -- Oh, maybe she means the car.

Who says size doesn't matter? Was this filmed on set of Laugh-In?

Dangerous cars and 35-year-old teenagers. Like I said -- it was a simpler time.

Hmmm. A head, shoulders, then something red, hard, & 15' long in front. Looks like this guy found a new way to pretend he's hung like a mule. I'm just saying...

If it "delivers the punch" when Shorty needs it, think what it'll do for you! Gotta hand it to Madison Ave; when they get a theme that works, they stick to it!

Racism, Sexism, PLUS Lucy & Desi! This ad's got it all! (And if you question whether TV's first couple have your best interests at heart - and lung - just watch this.)

Two fun facts: in 1970 getting your car stolen was a selling point; and Richard Dreyfuss used to be young! Who knew?
